TECH NOTE
Enhancing Protein Expression by Leveraging Codon Optimization
Codon preference is among the most critical parameters affecting the expression level of foreign genes. This technical note will discuss two practical case studies, comparing wildtype gene performance to Azenta's codon optimized sequences.
Researchers can leverage codon optimization tools to:
- Maximize expression of target proteins within host organisms
- Modify guanine-cytosine (GC) nucleotide content to speed up the gene synthesis process
- Eliminate unnecessary repeat sequences (direct repeat, inverted repeat, and dyad repeat) which is typically a hurdle during gene assembly
- Remove useless restriction enzyme recognition sites and keep the useful ones to ensure cloning precision
