About the Webinar
Microbial communities abound everywhere and exert powerful effects on their surroundings. For example, variations in the gut microbiome—the trillions of bacteria in the human gut—are associated with disorders ranging from diabetes mellitus and obesity to inflammatory bowel disease to cancer. This webinar will describe how metagenomic sequencing and bioinformatics are being applied to a range of industries, including microbiome-based diagnostics and therapeutics, infectious disease diagnostics and agriculture.
About the Presenter
Gilead Kedem has over 15 years of experience in the biotechnology industry, pursuing R&D at the confluence of genomics, bioinformatics and precision medicine. Currently a Senior Bioinformatics Analyst at GENEWIZ focusing on metagenomics, Gilead received his Bachelor’s degree in Physics from the University of Maryland at College Park, pursued graduate studies in Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University, and received his M.D. from the Sackler School of Medicine at Tel Aviv University. Prior to joining GENEWIZ, Gilead was CMO & CTO of a metagenomics-based startup engaged in infectious disease diagnostics. Prior to that, Gilead ran his own bioinformatics consultancy, developing pioneering bioinformatics software for pharma companies (e.g. Sanofi, Wyeth), biotech firms (e.g. Millennium Pharmaceuticals/The Takeda Oncology Company) and various startups.
